Easter Egg Hunt

April 2010 066

To raise funds for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure I put on an Easter Egg Hunt for the community.

I put up flyers in my neighborhood and took letters to local stores asking for donations. I made flyers and signs advertising the event. And I hoped hoped hoped people would come…

Come they did!

We had a lot of people! I was so impressed!

Here are some of my favorite pictures:

I painted a photo-op backdrop so families can have something fun to take pictures of. This is of Samantha standing next to the girl Easter Bunny just to show proportions.

Then when it was finished: Mike was a pwetty bunny and Samantha a good egg. Katherine as a lovely flower.  April 2010 055

Like a little fairy peeking out of a flower…

We sold cupcakes for $1. We also had earrings donated by Aunt Linda. We didn’t sell any but I think I’ll put them up on Etsy or something and try to sell them there.

Joseph really wanted a cupcake and ended up knocking a whole pan of them onto the ground. Silly boy! :)

A woman I had not met before, Anne O’Donnell, who has done the 3-Day for four years, had seen my signs around town and dressed up in her 3-Day garb and came out to help. That was such a nice thing to do! And it was great to meet her. She lives around the corner from me so I think I’ll end up teaming up with her and her team for the 3-Day.

Here she is helping families take pictures.

When the hunt started I went to the middle of the crowd to shoot some random pictures. I didn’t get to see any of my girls actually do the hunt. Something I was a little sad I missed. Later that evening I was looking through the pictures on my camera and look who is almost center of this picture!

Alan and Katherine! I think I had some unseen hands guide this shot and I was grateful for it.

At the end I had Gabby help gather up the pinwheels. She was so taken by the colorful bouquet and I happened to be wearing the camera. She didn’t know I was taking her picture here. So cute!

And here we are having fun with the Easter backdrop.

It was a very successful event. I had lots of help from Mike and Kara, Laura and David, Alisa and John, and Alan. A neighbor came by to help out and stayed from putting out the Easter Eggs in the morning to helping us load our car at the end. I was so touched by the response from people when they found out what I am doing this for. I had a Girl Scout Pack Leader rally her Brownie and Daisy troops to collect donations and a couple of the girls even came out to help set up. I received generous donations for the raffles including some from people that I don’t even know but who have been affected by Breast Cancer. My sister-in-law Alisa was a tremendous help and gave so much. For that I am really grateful.

We received $1382. 75 in donations at the event. Plus, as I spoke about it over facebook and as my family spoke about it I also received some additional donations to my 3-Day fund.  I made a great leap towards completing my goal to raise $2300. I jumped from less then 1/4 of the way there to 2/3rds of the way there. I still have that 1/3 to go, $754. It’s not a small chunk but at least now I think I will make it.

Even with all the work this event took and I did most of it myself, I really did have fun and I am so glad I did it! I think this may become an annual thing. I’d really love to keep it as a fundraiser for the 3-Day.
