A Pretty Purplicious Party! (warning post contains lots of purple puns!)

Samantha turned 5 on February 28th. We threw her a very alliterative Purple birthday Party for her. The idea started as a joke over dinner one evening when we were trying to Plan her Party. Since she absolutely loves the color Purple we wanted to Plan a Purple Party. And so you see where it took off.

It was a Purple Prince and Princess (P)irthday Pizza Party.

We made Purple Invitations.

When Party People came we gave them Purple Pearls and they Played with Puzzles until everyone arrived. Then they made Purple Personal Pizzas. Unfortunately I did not get a picture of them but Prior to the Party I made homemade Personal sized Pizza crusts colored Purple with food coloring mixed into the dough. It was quite impressive actually. The balls of dough looked like Purple Playdough! (hah! another “P” word!)

While the Pizzas baked we Planted Purple Pansies.

At the end, while we waited for Parents we Played around to the music of the Purple People Eater and other silly songs.

Samantha sent her guests off with fun favors:

A Purple Pail filled with Purple Popcorn balls, Pencils, Playdough and a Puzzle for the Prince or Pearls for the Princesses.

All in all it was a Pretty Phun Party!

(How many Purple P’s did you count?)

Katherine is 3!

Katherine just turned 3 on March 13. She could not stop talking about her birthday in the few days before. She was very excited about it and it was on her mind because Samantha had just had hers.

We let her choose what she wanted for dinner and she chose pizza – decision helped by daddy I think. :) Although, it wasn’t a hard decision for her. She LOVES cheese pizza.March 2010 037

I was planning on making her a butterfly cake but she decided she wanted chocolate birthday cupcakes with chocolate frosting instead. I happily obliged because 1. they’re chocolate! 2. they aren’t as much work and 3. they’re chocolate!March 2010 031March 2010 033

I think they turned out cute. I call them hot-chocolate cupcakes because of the mini-marshmallow on top (and in hindsight I am wondering what the frosting would be like if I’d used hot chocolate powder for the cocoa, hmmm). I put one on each cupcake because Katherine is our mini-marshmallow fiend. She is always searching the cupboard for them.

We sang “Happy Birthday” and she blew out the candles.

March 2010 048

She opened presents.

March 2010 044

She got clothes and was very excited about it,

March 2010 049

A book and flashlight from grandpa. Gabby was, of course, more delighted by the book having checked it out from the library recently. It is “Where the Sidewalk Ends” by Shel Silverstein. It is a 25th anniversary edition with a CD of the author reading his poems. The Shel Silverstein books were some of my favorites as a kid Gabby’s age.

She also got a Leap Frog Click-Start game console. This has a console that plugs into the television and a little keyboard and mouse like a real computer has. She is really enjoying it as she gets better at using it.

March 2010 058

And a cute little dress for Spring. I love the vintage print and she likes the flowers all over it. She was very cute in it on Sunday.

March 2010 060

We ate cupcakes and ice-cream

March 2010 061

While Joseph looked on wondering where his was.

March 2010 059

She was quite a happy little Katherine! And she sure enjoyed those chocolate cupcakes.

Bliss!!

Lepurcans

At school the kids really get into the little holidays that come around and their assignments focus on them. This is the story that Gabby brought home which she’d done for St. Patrick’s Day: (unedited)

It was the day before St. Patrick’s Day and I was making a sign. It said, “To lepurcauns. Do not come in.” because lepurcans do the oppisite of what signs tell them to do. Then I hung it up, but unfortenetly there was still wet paint. That night, while I was asleep, the lepurcan came, though I didn’t know it. When I woke up on St. Patrick’s Day, I saw little green footprints. I chuckled, got down from my bunkbed, and started following the footprints. When I got closer, Lava, one of my stuffed bears, started whispering. When I looked behind it, I saw a lepurcaun. I tried to grab it but it darted away and ran into the wall! Then I chased it down the hall and cried “You come back here!” He, of course did the oppisite. Then, an idea hit me. “Don’t come back here!” I said. He went tworrds me and I caught him but then he disapeared. “Oh well,” I thought. “Maby I’ll have better luck next year!”

Cute huh?

Today Samantha was thinking about leprechauns at lunchtime. I think she was gazing out the kitchen window at our rather messy sunroom. Then she started talking about walking around the house and being surprised by how clean things were and how would it get that way? This is her imagination of course. The house is not clean (I admit it…sigh…). She said that maybe a cleaning leprechaun would come. I told her I would LOVE to catch a cleaning leprechaun.

I also wouldn't mind catching one with a pot of gold too!

How about you?
